Madaripur/Jhalokathi Jan 04 (V7N) — District Administration and the District Social Services Office in Madaripur celebrated National Social Service Day on Saturday through various activities aimed at promoting welfare and community service.

The day began with a colorful procession in the morning, followed by a discussion session on self-reflection and self-assessment. Welfare services, distribution of support materials, loans, and financial grants to needy patients were also conducted.

The event was presided over by Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office, Bishwajit Baidya. Additional District Commissioner (Revenue) Muhammad Ashraful Alam attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Jahangir Alam, District Child Welfare Officer Md. Shahidul Islam Munshi, and Civil Surgeon representative Dr. S.M. Khaliluzzaman. The session was conducted by Assistant Director of the District Social Services Office Md. Afzal Hossain. Also present were city social service officer Syed Fazle Rabbi Noman, Registration Officer Md. Jabed Hossain, and other departmental officials.

On the occasion, financial assistance of Tk 50,000 each was provided to 176 patients suffering from incurable diseases. Ten individuals from Raipur Upazila were supported under the beggar rehabilitation program, receiving two auto-vans, eight tea stalls, and necessary materials. Microloans totaling Tk 1.7 million were distributed among 34 beneficiaries of the city social services office. Wheelchairs were also distributed to persons with disabilities.

In recognition of exemplary work, five officers and employees of the Madaripur District Social Services Department were awarded for outstanding social service. Assistant Director Md. Afzal Hossain was named Best Officer (District Level). Raipur Upazila Social Services Officer Badshah Faisal was recognized at the Upazila/Field Level. Male Social Worker award went to city social worker UCD Abul Hossain, female Social Worker award to technical trainer Tanzida, and Best Employee (District Level) award to office assistant Anwar Hossain Mallik.

National Social Service Day 2026 Marked in Kathalia, Jhalokathi with Rally and Discussion

In Jhalkathi’s Kathalia, National Social Service Day was marked with a rally and discussion session. The rally started at 8:30 am from the Upazila Parishad, passing through main streets before concluding in the parishad hall for a discussion. Upazila Executive Officer Md. Makbul Hossain inaugurated the rally. Speakers included Upazila Social Services Officer Subrata Kumar Debnath, Panel Chairman of Kathalia Sadar Union Parishad Md. Zakir Hossain, and Maulana Md. Mizanur Rahman, among others.

The day emphasized technology, compassion, welfare, and equality as guiding principles for effective social service and community development.
