PABNA, March 3, (V7N) - Relatives and locals in Ishwardi, Pabna staged a human chain and protest on Tuesday morning demanding the hanging of Shariful Islam Sharif (30), accused of killing his aunt Sufia Begum and her granddaughter Jamila Akter Setu.
The hour-long program was held in front of the Pabna Press Club at 11 am, where speakers strongly condemned the brutal murders and called for exemplary punishment. After the human chain, a protest march paraded through city streets before ending at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where a memorandum was submitted demanding Shariful’s execution.
On February 28, police recovered Sufia Begum’s body from her home in Bhabanipur Uttarpara village and Jamila’s body from a nearby mustard field. Shariful, the victim’s nephew, was arrested the same day, and police seized the murder weapon based on his information.
Investigators revealed that Shariful had made immoral advances toward Jamila, who resisted and slapped him. Out of anger, he killed both grandmother and granddaughter.
Family members and protesters said justice must be swift to restore public confidence. The incident has sparked outrage across Ishwardi, with residents demanding strict punishment to deter such crimes.
