New Delhi, Jun 13 (V7N) – The 57th Director General-level border conference between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Border Security Force (BSF) of India concluded in New Delhi without a joint press conference.
The four-day conference was held at the BSF headquarters in the Indian capital and ended on Thursday (June 11).
Although a joint discussion document was signed in line with established practice, no joint media briefing was held following the meeting. Instead, both sides later issued a press release outlining the key outcomes of the discussions.
According to the statement, the BGB Director General expressed concern over border killings and incidents of violence along the Bangladesh-India frontier. Issues related to push-ins and illegal border crossings were also discussed during the meeting.
The two sides further exchanged views on preventing the smuggling of narcotics, arms and other prohibited goods, as well as combating human trafficking across the border.
The press release stated that both border forces agreed to strengthen joint patrols, enhance coordination and increase information-sharing mechanisms to address cross-border crimes and security challenges more effectively.
The Director General-level border conference between Bangladesh and India was held annually from 1975 to 1992. In 1993, both countries agreed to organize the meeting twice a year, with the venue alternating between Dhaka and New Delhi.
The previous BGB-BSF Director General-level meeting was held in Dhaka in August 2025.
