Patuakhali Cyclone Remal's Destruction Imprint: Many Still Unable to Return Home, Silent Tears Among Affected Families Continue.

Trapped by a debilitating illness, Kormohin Trisha Rani's husband, Khokon Gain, has been bedridden for a generation. He resides in a small house attached to the Kalapara municipal fire service. His family's livelihood depends on teaching a few children privately. However, Cyclone Remal has left its mark with just a slight brush of devastation. The household belongings have been swept away in the water.

Now, he doesn't have the money to repair the house, so he's trying to cover the damage himself. Trisha Rani said that since Cyclone Sidr, her house has been destroyed four times by storms. But this time, even the last remnants of their resources have been destroyed in the havoc of Cyclone Remal. A similar fate has befallen the widow Dipali Rani's house, which collapsed under a fallen tree. With her elderly mother-in-law and son-daughter, they are still spending nights in a room at the neighboring college.

Dipali Rani said her husband died three years ago. Her son Chayan Dakuwa, sells tea on the roadside to make ends meet. The trees fell in the devastation of Cyclone Remal, shattering the house and leaving everything in ruins. She doesn't understand how they'll stay in this house anymore. Families like theirs, among the low-income affected, are quietly enduring such sorrow. It seems like the stamp of destruction from Cyclone Remal has spread across all 12 unions and two municipalities of this upazila.

On the other hand, the catastrophic Cyclone Remal has completely destroyed 1,671 houses in the upazila, and 26,909 houses have been partially damaged. The number of affected people in the upazila has reached about 75,000, according to upazila administration sources. Local administration officials, along with representatives of the people, are providing relief to the affected people.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mr. Humayun Kabir said that funds have been allocated for the rehabilitation of the affected people's homes and other facilities under the Ministry of Disaster Management's disaster management. These will soon be delivered to their doorstep.
