June 3 (V7N Dhaka)- The aftermath of Cyclone Remal has indeed brought significant challenges to the people of Mongla and the surrounding areas, particularly those engaged in fish farming and agriculture. Their plea for the suspension of loan installments and the waiver of interest reflects the urgent need for support in rebuilding their livelihoods.

The devastation caused by the cyclone has not only led to the loss of homes and livelihoods but has also disrupted the financial stability of many individuals and families. With fish enclosures destroyed and cropland submerged, the ability to repay loans has become severely compromised.

The demand for a six-month suspension of installment payments seems reasonable given the scale of destruction and the time it would take for affected individuals to recover and resume their economic activities. Additionally, the call for the suspension of interest on borrowed money acknowledges the need for relief from accumulating debt during this crisis period.

The solidarity shown by local officials, including Upazila Vice Chairman Mohammad Ikbal Hossain and others, in supporting the demands of the affected farmers and fishers is commendable. It demonstrates a recognition of the gravity of the situation and a commitment to addressing the immediate needs of the community.

Accepting the memorandum on behalf of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer indicates a willingness to engage with the concerns raised and hopefully pave the way for concrete measures to alleviate the financial burden on those affected by Cyclone Remal.

Moving forward, it will be crucial for authorities at both the local and national levels to work together to ensure that adequate support reaches the affected communities, enabling them to recover and rebuild their lives in the aftermath of this natural disaster.
