Rangamati, July 01 (V7N)- Due to several days of continuous rainfall, at least 20,000 people in the hilly region of Rangamati are at risk of landslides. To protect the citizens living at the foothills, the Rangamati district administration has already taken various measures. To safely evacuate residents from areas at risk of landslides in this hazardous weather, the administration is continuously broadcasting announcements in Rangamati Sadar and surrounding sub-districts.
 
To ensure the safety and shelter of the local population, a total of 267 shelters have been prepared in Rangamati district, including 29 in the 9 wards of Rangamati Municipality, confirmed Md. Saiful Islam, Additional District Commissioner (General) of Rangamati. He stated that to avoid all sorts of damages, including landslides due to heavy to very heavy rainfall, people living on the slopes are being made aware through announcements.
 
According to district administration data, around 20,000 people from 5,000 families reside in high-risk areas in Rangamati.

Earlier, on Sunday afternoon, an emergency meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee was held at the conference room of the District Commissioner's office, presided over by Rangamati District Commissioner Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan. The District Commissioner mentioned that the Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Chittagong Division from 4 PM on June 30 due to the active monsoon over Bangladesh.
 
They have also warned of potential landslides in hilly areas. Residents living on the slopes are being requested to move to safe shelters or go to shelter centers to avoid the risk of landslides during heavy rainfall. According to the Rangamati Weather Observation Center, 27.7 millimeters of rainfall have been recorded in Rangamati district in the last 24 hours.
