DHAKA, July 28, (V7N)– Police headquarters (PHQ) today issued an alert urging people to be cautious against a recent trend of cheating using social media, particularly to extort money and influence official matters.
A PHQ statement said the police headquarters in recent days noted several complaints of fraudsters seeking money and making various recommendations or requests in the names of police officers, using their photographs as well.
"Anyone who receives any such message from fraudsters could call the national emergency services at 999 and contact the CID's cyber police centre, Detective Branch, or DMP," the statement said.
It advised people not to respond to any such messages, saying photographs of any government official in any particular identity (ID) on social media does not ensure the mobile number belongs to that official.
It blasted the activities of the frauds for also damaging the reputation of government organisations and officials, and promised due legal actions against such fraudulent activities.
