Khulna, August 23- Pankhali embankment of Dakop upazila of Khulna was destroyed by high tide and fish enclosures and villages were submerged.  At the same time, the Wapdar dam broke in Kalinagar area of ​​Deluti union in Paikgacha and water is entering the locality.  It caused extensive damage to crops.  Fish cages have been swept away, cropland with seedbeds has sunk.

According to local sources, around 1:00 pm on Thursday, Wapdar road broke in high tide water over an area of ​​more than 300 feet south of Kalinagar Bawali house in Polder No. 22 of Deluti Union of Upazila, east of Amphan, and water entered the locality.  Villages of Kalinagar, Harinkhola, Harammallik were inundated due to the breach.  As a result, houses with newly planted paddy and seed floors were submerged.  Residents fear that the entire 22nd polder may be flooded by evening.

The residents of the area have been working on repairing the dam since yesterday evening till 12 midnight but it is not getting much benefit.  Dam repair work is being disrupted due to strong current. 

Meanwhile, due to the breach of the Pankhali embankment caused by the strong current of the Sibsa river in Dakop, water has entered several villages and fish enclosures. 

On the other hand, most of the roads including Tutpara, Boyra, Nirala, Moulvipara, Baytipara in Khulna metropolis have been submerged in water and have become impassable due to the rain throughout the night yesterday. 

Khulna district administration said that the water development board has started the work to repair the dam.
