Noakhali, Sep 06 (V7N) — Joint forces consisting of police, RAB, and army personnel have recovered a licensed shotgun and 12 rounds of ammunition from a roadside in Noakhali. The firearm, registered under the name of former Member of Parliament Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, was found abandoned in Sundalpur village, Kabirhat Upazila, late Thursday night.

District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Asaduzzaman confirmed that the weapon was discovered based on secret information during a raid. He noted that efforts are ongoing to recover illegal weapons in the district as well. The shotgun and ammunition were found in a white plastic bag, abandoned near a graveyard on the north-west side of Chowdhury's home.

According to district administration sources, 185 firearms are licensed in Noakhali, of which 145 have been purchased. Among these, 76 are currently suspended, and 75 have been deposited following a government directive.

The Superintendent of Police stated that the recovered firearm has been logged into the General Diary (GD). The firearms licensed to civilians in the district include those owned by financial institutions, government officials, former MPs, ministers, and prominent political and business figures. All license holders were instructed to deposit their firearms with the Deputy Commissioner's office by September 3, as per government orders.
