DHAKA, Jan 13, (V7N) – Professor Dr. Masuma Habib, a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, has called on the interim government to allocate a larger budget for the education sector in the upcoming fiscal year to enhance research quality and develop necessary infrastructure.
Speaking as the chief guest at a research proposal evaluation workshop organized by UGC's Research and Grants Management Division, Prof. Habib emphasized the importance of increased funding to create world-class universities.
“The budget allocation for education and research must be increased to ensure the advancement of higher education and establish institutions of global standards,” she stated.
She expressed optimism that the interim government, led by university educators serving as the chief adviser and education adviser, would advocate for a higher education budget.
Promoting Research-Based Education
Prof. Habib underscored the need to engage the younger generation in research-driven education and called for the resumption of travel grants for university teachers to attend international conferences.
She urged project evaluators to prioritize research proposals that would have a tangible impact on the country and its people. She also advised researchers to complete their projects within the given timeline to ensure the effective use of public funds.
