Savar, Jan 31 (V7N) - The Dharmarai Government College in Dhaka hosted a grand Pitha Festival and Cultural Event-2025 under the slogan, "The smell of Pitha awakens winter memories, blending Bengali joy in the celebration." The event took place on Thursday, January 30, at the college grounds, organized by the Teachers' Council of Dharmarai Government College.

The festival was inaugurated with Dr. Md. Selim Mia, Principal of Dharmarai Government College, presiding over the ceremony, and the Chief Guest being Mamun Ahmed Anik, Upazila Executive Officer of Dharmarai. Other notable guests included Professor Md. Ziaul Haque, Vice-Principal of Dharmarai Government College, and Md. Abdul Jabbar, Head of the Department of Management, along with the Officer-in-Charge of Dharmarai Police Station, Md. Monirul Islam.

As in previous years, around 20 to 30 different varieties of pithas (traditional Bengali sweets) were displayed by various departments at the Pitha Festival. Students, faculty, and parents participated enthusiastically, with everyone bringing their favorite pithas to the event, including varieties like Bhapa Pitha, Pati Sapta, Dudh Kali, Golapful Pitha, Cake, and Chitai Pitha, among others.

Student Rabeya from the Department of Management said, "We had so much fun celebrating the festival. We made pithas at home the day before and brought them to the event the next day. Our Nabanar Ghran Pitha sold out the quickest!"

Dr. Md. Selim Mia, Principal of Dharmarai Government College, explained that the Pitha Festival is an integral part of Bengali culture, a tradition that has been celebrated for over 5,000 years. He expressed his gratitude to all participants and emphasized that this yearly event in winter brings a spirit of joy and unity to all attendees.

Chief Guest Mamun Ahmed Anik, Dharmarai Upazila Executive Officer, remarked, "The Pitha Festival is an important part of our Bengali heritage, and it is heartwarming to see Dharmarai Government College celebrating it so beautifully. I congratulate Principal Dr. Selim Mia and the organizing team for their dedication."

The event was also attended by former Secretary of the Teachers' Council, Associate Professor Md. Rofiqul Islam, Assistant Professor Md. Titon Hossain, and Lecturer Md. Obaidullah, along with other teachers, students, and parents.
