Dhaka, Jan 31 (V7N) – Students of Government Titumir College have intensified their protest, demanding the institution be upgraded to a full-fledged university. What started as a hunger strike in the morning quickly escalated into a road blockade by noon.

On Friday at around 3 PM, students blocked the Gulshan-1 to Badda Link Road via Mohakhali, causing significant traffic disruption.

Overnight Protest and Government Intervention

The protest began on Thursday (January 30) at noon, when students blocked the Gulshan-Mohakhali road in front of the college's main gate. They continued their demonstration throughout the night, vowing not to end their hunger strike until their demands were met.

At 9 PM on Thursday, a government delegation, led by Md. Nuruzzaman, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education, visited the protest site to discuss the students' concerns. However, when he stated that it was not possible to immediately declare Titumir College a university, students insisted that officials with the authority to make the decision should be summoned.

Uncertainty Over Resolution

The students have expressed frustration over the lack of a concrete commitment from the authorities. Their protests have disrupted daily life in the area, and it remains unclear whether the government will take immediate action to address their demands.

With no resolution in sight, tensions continue to rise as students remain firm in their demand for university status for Titumir College.
