Netrokona, Feb 19, (V7N) - Teachers at Ganganagar Nirad Chandra Government Primary School in Kalmakanda Upazila of Netrokona district have been accused of making students dig soil.

On Monday (February 17), it was observed that young students, who had come to school, were being made to collect soil from a low-lying area next to the school. The children were seen digging the soil with spades, while the teachers stood nearby, apparently enjoying the sun. When asked about this, the teachers explained that this was the regular practice at the school and that students are often assigned such tasks.

There have been various complaints about government primary school teachers in the haor region. These teachers are often reported to arrive late to school, and many are absent for extended periods. As a result, the quality of education in these areas is on the decline. Moreover, teachers who are present do not seem to be providing proper lessons to the students.

In response, the Assistant Education Officer of Kalmakanda Upazila, Mohammad Sarwar Jahan, told Voice7 News, "It is absolutely wrong to make young children dig soil. We are investigating the matter."
