Pabna, Mar 15 (V7N) – Assistant Professor Awal Kabir Joy of the Department of Social Work at Pabna University of Science and Technology has been temporarily suspended by the university administration.
University Registrar Bijan Kumar Brahma confirmed the suspension on Saturday afternoon, March 15.
An official order regarding the suspension of Awal Kabir Joy was issued by the Registrar's Office on Wednesday, March 13.
The office order states, "Dr. Md. Awal Kabir, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUBST) has been absent from work since 7/11/2024 without the permission of the authorities, disobeying departmental orders and obtaining permission for virtual classes by providing false information, for inappropriate behavior, disobeying lawful orders of a superior officer, neglecting duties and organizing work and absconding. His such behavior is a punishable offense under Rule 3(b)(c) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. In that context, as it is considered appropriate to suspend the accused from service under Rule 12(1) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, Dr. Md. Awal Kabir is hereby suspended from service on the orders of the authorities."
University sources indicate that Awal Kabir Joy had been absent from the university since August 5, following the fall of the "autocratic Hasina government." During that time, he conducted online classes for three months with permission from the previous administration. After the new administration assumed office, his request for online class permission was denied. He had been absent from the university without a written request since November 7. Despite being directed by the administration to resume his duties, he continued to be absent, disregarding administrative orders.
