Savar, Sep 11 (V7N) – Voting at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall has been suspended following an unexpected incident during the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) elections on Thursday.

The suspension occurred around 12 noon, after controversy erupted when Chhatra Dal-backed VP candidate Sheikh Sadi Hasan allegedly entered the girls’ hall without permission. University authorities immediately halted the voting process, which remains suspended as of the latest reports.

Earlier in the morning, Sheikh Sadi Hasan and Chhatra Shibir-backed VP candidate Arif Ullah Adeeb cast their ballots at Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall. Following his vote, Hasan accused the administration of granting undue privileges to a rival student organization’s candidate and alleged the printing of extra ballot papers to manipulate results.

In contrast, Adeeb expressed confidence in the student body, saying he trusted “ordinary students” to ensure his victory. He also complained that no action was taken by the commission despite repeated objections regarding former students violating election rules and roaming the campus.

Voting for the JUCSU elections, which began slightly later than the scheduled 9 am, is expected to continue until 5 pm. Ballot boxes, papers, and other materials were distributed earlier in the morning, with polling agents taking charge of respective centers.
