Savar, Sep 13 (V7N) – The counting of votes for the Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union (JUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections will be completed by noon, but the results will be formally announced at 7 pm, Chief Election Commissioner Prof. Md. Moniruzzaman said Saturday afternoon.

Election Commission Member Secretary Prof. Dr. AKM Rashedul Alam explained that the process is taking longer since the polls are being held after 33 years. “We want to ensure that no questionable situation arises,” he said.

So far, vote counting for 18 out of 21 halls has been completed, with three still underway. The delay has sparked frustration among students and candidates.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan held an emergency meeting with the Election Commission, where it was decided to increase manpower and declare results by Friday night. However, despite assurances, the process dragged into Saturday.

Meanwhile, Election Commission member Prof. Mafrohi Sattar resigned, alleging irregularities and lack of a level playing field. “I was under pressure not to resign, but I cannot stay silent,” said Sattar, also president of the JU Nationalist Teachers’ Forum.

His resignation drew criticism from Ferdous Al Hasan, AGS candidate of the Integrated Student Alliance backed by Islami Chhatra Shibir. “He has fled the battlefield after failing to implement his conspiracy,” Ferdous alleged.

The JUCSU and hall elections were held last Thursday with 11,743 registered voters. Turnout was around 67–68 percent. Vote counting began Thursday night but was halted Friday amid disputes over OMR versus manual methods. It later resumed manually with additional polling officers deployed.
