Kushtia, Nov 23 (V7N) – The Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University (IU), Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, has announced that the long-awaited formation process of the Islamic University Central Students’ Union (IUCSU) is now in its final stage, with completion expected within the next two to three months. The proposal for establishing IUCSU has already been submitted to the University Grants Commission (UGC), he confirmed.

He made the remarks on Saturday (22 November) while delivering a brief speech as the chief guest at a discussion program marking Islamic University Day. The event was held at the Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor recalled that the foundation stone of Islamic University was laid on this day in 1979 by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who envisioned an institution that would integrate science, modern knowledge, social sciences, and religious studies. He said the university was established to offer a balanced academic environment combining modern and traditional fields of learning.

He added that the university is now working to strengthen its international academic network. Several previously signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with global institutions are being reactivated, while efforts are underway to expand new international collaborations.

The Vice-Chancellor further stated that although education and research are the core functions of the university, government funding for research remains inadequate. To address this gap, steps will be taken to secure research grants and financial support from multiple national and international sources. He expressed optimism that with collective efforts, Islamic University will evolve into a modern and exemplary center of higher education.

Earlier, on Wednesday (27 August), the university administration formed an 11-member committee tasked with drafting the constitution and regulations for conducting IUCSU and hall council elections — a significant step toward restoring student representation on campus.
