Los Angeles, Feb 09, (V7N) - The 97th Academy Awards are set to take place next month in Los Angeles, celebrating the best films and talent of 2024. After the Golden Globes and Grammys, the Oscars are the next major event in Hollywood’s award season.
The nominations for this year’s ceremony were announced last month by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The list features a diverse selection of films, from the epic nearly four-hour historical drama The Brutalist to the fantasy musical Wicked. Leading the pack is Netflix's crime musical Emilia Pérez, with an impressive 13 Oscar nominations. Close behind are The Brutalist and Wicked, both earning 10 nominations. The Best Picture category includes these films along with Anora, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, I'm Still Here, The Substance, Dune: Part Two, and Nickel Boys, making for a highly competitive lineup.
The awards will be held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, where the Oscars have taken place since 2001. The venue, once known as the Kodak Theatre, is located within the Ovation Hollywood shopping center. Designed specifically for the Academy Awards, the Dolby Theater has a seating capacity of 3,300. Prior to 2001, the ceremony alternated between the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Music Center and the Shrine Civic Auditorium from 1990 to 2001.
This year’s Oscars will be hosted by comedian Conan O'Brien, marking his first time hosting the prestigious event. O'Brien, who has previously hosted the Emmys in 2002 and 2006, expressed his excitement with a humorous statement: “America demanded it and now it's happening: Taco Bell's new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I'm hosting the Oscars."
As the ceremony draws nearer, anticipation continues to build for one of the most significant nights in the entertainment industry.
