Kolkata, Feb 17 (V7N)Pratul Mukherjee, the legendary lyricist, composer, and musician behind the iconic song "Ami Banglaay Gaan Gai", has passed away at the age of 83. He breathed his last on Saturday morning at Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment in the ICU.

A Musical Journey Marked by Passion

Born on June 25, 1942, in Barisal, undivided Bengal, Pratul Mukherjee later migrated to West Bengal, India, with his family after the Partition. Though he had no formal training in music, he mastered the art of blending melody and words, creating songs that resonated deeply with Bengali listeners.

His most famous composition, "Ami Banglaay Gaan Gai", remains a timeless anthem of Bengali identity. The song, first released in March 2011, continues to inspire generations.

Battling Illness Before Death

Pratul Mukherjee had been hospitalized since early January following intestinal surgery. He suffered a heart attack post-surgery, leading to a further decline in his health. His condition worsened on Monday night, prompting his transfer to the ICU, where he succumbed on Saturday morning.
