Teknaf, Oct 26 (V7N) — A stray bullet fired from across the Myanmar border struck a residential house in Amtali village, Ward No. 2, Howaikhyang, Teknaf, piercing the tin roof and entering the interior of the home. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the incident has caused alarm among local residents living near the border.

According to family member Md. Rabbi, the bullet hit the house of Ayub Islam on Sunday morning. “Around the same time, we heard the loud sound of gunfire from the Myanmar border, which is about two and a half kilometers from our home. Later, we noticed a hole in the tin roof of our house. The bullet was later found lodged in the interior wall,” he said.

Local Ward Member Sirajul Mostofa Lalu confirmed the incident, stating that the bullet pierced the tin roof but caused no injuries. He added that cross-border gunfire frequently instills fear among border communities.

Chairman of Howaikhyang Union Parishad, Nur Ahmed Anowari, recalled a similar incident on Saturday afternoon in Ward No. 3, when a bullet from the Myanmar border hit a computer shop at Techib Bridge and grazed the foot of a woman, Chenuara Begum, while she was walking on her rooftop.

Officials urged local authorities to maintain high-level vigilance along the border to prevent such incidents. Chairman Anowari advised residents not to panic but to move cautiously and stay alert while near border areas.

The recurring stray bullets highlight ongoing security concerns for communities near the Teknaf border, emphasizing the need for coordinated monitoring and preventive measures by authorities.
