Dhaka, Jan 09 (V7N)- The Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) has claimed that Inqilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman Hadi was shot dead on the direct orders and planning of former Mirpur ward councilor and Jubo League leader Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi.

According to DB sources, Bappi is currently absconding and is believed to be hiding in Kolkata, India. However, Indian authorities have not officially confirmed the presence of any accused linked to the murder inside the country.

Investigations by law enforcement revealed that Bappi has allegedly been staying at Flat A-3 on the first floor of a four-storey building in an area locally known as Jhanjhan Goli, located in West Beraberi’s Methopara area under Rajarhat, Kolkata. DB officials say he is accompanied by four to five Awami League leaders and activists, each of whom faces multiple criminal cases in Bangladesh.

Local sources said Bappi has been residing in the area for over a year, allegedly using the identity of a Bangladeshi police officer. When journalists visited the address, Bappi reportedly went into hiding. Two Jubo League leaders from Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station area—Mofiqur Rahman Ujjal and Sajibul Islam—who are said to share the flat, told reporters that Bappi was not present there at the time.

DB officials further stated that along with Bappi, the alleged shooter Faisal Karim and his associate Alamgir Hossain also fled to India after the killing.

Meanwhile, reliable sources within the Awami League claimed that Bappi has already been detained by Indian police. However, Narayanpur Police Station denied the claim, and the Bidhannagar Police Commissioner’s Office said they had no information about any suspects in the Hadi murder case hiding in Kolkata.

Since the issue involves cross-border jurisdiction and falls under the authority of India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs, local police officials have refrained from making public statements on camera.

Investigations into the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi are ongoing.
