DHAKA, July 12, (v7n) – Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher, along with newly appointed chairmen of various development authorities, today paid tribute at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The minister was accompanied by Rajshahi Development Authority Chairman Abul Kalam Azad, Sylhet Development Authority Chairman Rezaul Hasan Lodi, Mymensingh Development Authority Chairman Motahar Hossain Talukder, Cumilla Development Authority Chairman Udbatul Bari Babu, Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Shamsuzzaman Samu, and Narayanganj Development Authority Chairman Mashukul Islam Rajib.
After placing wreaths, doa and munajat were offered seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia, according to a PID release. A large number of BNP leaders and activists, along with members of its associate bodies, were present on the occasion.
Under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, six new development authorities have been established in Sylhet, Mymensingh, Barishal, Cumilla, Rangpur, and Narayanganj. Their principal objectives include maintaining geo-natural and ecological balance, preventing unplanned urbanisation, ensuring disaster-resilient urban management, promoting IT and tourism development, and building well-planned, modern cities with improved civic amenities.
