Dhaka, Jul 12 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed all concerned government agencies to work together to complete renovation, beautification, and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) installation projects for Dhanmondi and Gulshan lakes within the scheduled timeframe.
He issued the directive during a meeting held at the Cabinet Division meeting room of the Bangladesh Secretariat at 11:30 am on Sunday (July 12).
The meeting reviewed various initiatives aimed at protecting Dhaka's environment, preserving water bodies, improving cleanliness, and modernizing the capital's sewage management system.
Officials informed the meeting that the renovation and reconstruction of Dhanmondi Lake, development of Nazrul Sarobar, and installation of an STP would be implemented under an initiative of Dhaka South City Corporation to improve Dhaka's sewage infrastructure.
During the meeting, a decision was taken to completely shut down all illegal waste discharge lines connected to Gulshan and Baridhara lakes within the next six months.
The meeting also discussed maintaining cleanliness at Gulshan Lake, beautification initiatives, and environmental development activities under the leadership of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha.
The Prime Minister reviewed several plans to restore the capital's lakes, strengthen waste management activities, and establish sewage treatment facilities for residential and commercial establishments.
The meeting was attended by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Manzoor, Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Md. Abdus Salam, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A. B. M. Abdus Sattar and other senior government officials.
Authorities said the coordinated efforts are aimed at restoring the ecological balance of Dhaka's water bodies and ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.
