Bangladesh Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today announced that the second phase of the 6th upazila polls was held peacefully, similar to the first phase, with a satisfactory voter turnout.

Quader made these remarks at a press conference held at AL President Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi political office.

He criticized the BNP, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), and some anti-state intellectuals for spreading falsehoods to discourage voter participation. He emphasized that no elections were conducted without bloodshed during BNP's tenure.

Addressing claims about Ziaur Rahman's involvement in BAKSAL, Quader asserted that Ziaur Rahman joined BAKSAL through a formal application, and there is evidence of this. He noted that Zia's name was 71st on the BAKSAL committee list.

Quader clarified that BAKSAL was not an authoritarian party but a national party formed out of necessity during that period, with an electoral system in place.

The press conference was attended by AL Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries BM Mozammel Haque, SM Kamal Hossain, Mirza Azam, Sujit Roy Nandi, and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan.
