Dhaka, Oct 30 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday urged the interim government to prioritize conducting a credible and inclusive national election, as it is the public's foremost demand. Fakhrul made this appeal while speaking at a discussion held by the National People's Party (NPP) at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) to commemorate its 17th founding anniversary.

Addressing Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Fakhrul advised him to remain vigilant to uphold his reputation and public support. "Focus on the election without being sidetracked by other issues," he said, directing his comment toward the government.

Fakhrul emphasized that a fair, neutral, and widely accepted election is essential for the nation's progress and stability. He acknowledged the formation of a search committee by the interim government to establish an Election Commission but expressed that it would have been ideal if political parties had been consulted. Nevertheless, he conveyed optimism that the committee would fulfill its duties properly.

The BNP leader also highlighted the importance of political neutrality, urging Dr. Yunus to safeguard his well-regarded status. "Bangladeshis hold you in high esteem, and my request is to stay attentive so your position remains unshaken," he stated.

During the event, which was chaired by NPP Chairman Dr. Fariduzzaman Farhad, notable speakers included Jamaat Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Labor Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran, JAGPA President Khandakar Lutfor Rahman, Ganodal Chairman ATM Golam Maola Chowdhury, NDP Chairman Kari Abu Taher, and Jatiyatabadi Ganotantrik Party Chairman SM Shahdat. NPP Secretary General Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa moderated the discussion.
