London, Aug 07 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman held a meeting with Acting US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Tracy Ann Jacobson, in London during the second week of July, according to official confirmation by BNP sources.
Humayun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Advisor to Tarique Rahman, confirmed the meeting on Wednesday, stating that international interest in BNP and the upcoming national elections has significantly increased. “The meeting focused on BNP’s position regarding the election process and future governance plans,” Kabir said.
He also revealed that Tarique Rahman is expected to return to Bangladesh later this year, a move that could reshape the country’s political landscape ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Elections.
This high-profile diplomatic engagement follows a June 13 meeting in London between Tarique Rahman and Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, where the proposed February 26, 2026 election date was discussed. The two leaders issued a joint statement highlighting the need for free, fair, and inclusive elections.
On Tuesday night, in an address to the nation, Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus officially announced that the next national elections would be held before Ramadan in February 2026, and that he would soon send a formal request to the Chief Election Commissioner to initiate preparations.
The recent flurry of diplomatic and political activity underscores the intensifying focus on Bangladesh’s democratic process — both domestically and internationally — as the country moves closer to a highly anticipated electoral season.
