Dhaka, Nov 05 (V7N) — Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, issued a strong warning to the government against any behind-the-scenes moves that would undermine the BNP’s role or the democratic process. Speaking at a discussion event in honor of the late freedom fighter Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Sabu at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Tuesday morning, Abbas asserted that the public would not accept a government lacking voter support, just as they hadn’t in the past.
He emphasized that the BNP’s push is not simply a bid for power but an effort to restore democracy for the people. Abbas urged the government to avoid tactics that might lead to a national distrust, instead calling for clear communication on election timelines.
“If you plan to rewrite the constitution, you must engage in dialogue with us,” Abbas stated, signaling the BNP’s readiness for constructive discussion but also its firm stance on transparency and democratic integrity.
