Dhaka, Nov 12 (V7N) — BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated that the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman should not have been removed from Banga Bhavan. Speaking at a medical camp and blood donation event organized by the BNP at the central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, Rizvi highlighted that while Khandaker Mushtaq removed Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s picture, Ziaur Rahman later reinstated it.

During his speech, Rizvi reflected on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s political journey, noting that he initiated Bakshal, banning all political parties post-independence, which Rizvi described as a step towards suppressing democracy. Despite his prominent role in the freedom movement and the public's trust in him, Rizvi argued that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman could not fulfil certain promises. He credited Ziaur Rahman with significant contributions during the War of Independence, contrasting the roles of both leaders in Bangladesh’s history.

Additionally, Rizvi addressed BNP advisor Mahfuz Alam, commenting on the historical decision to remove Sheikh Mujib's photo from Banga Bhavan and the importance of restoring it. He expressed his belief that the portrait should not have been taken down initially, despite the political challenges of the time.

Rizvi further criticised alleged political bias under Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, claiming that qualified professionals associated with the BNP were overlooked for promotions and remained in the same position for extended periods.
