Dhaka, Jan 09 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has lodged complaints with the International Crimes Tribunal, accusing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and law enforcement agencies of involvement in the killings of 2,276 BNP leaders and activists and the enforced disappearances of 153 individuals between 2008 and August 5, 2024.
Md. Salahuddin Khan, coordinator of BNP’s case collection and information cell, and Advocate Nurul Islam Zahid submitted two separate complaints to the tribunal’s prosecution branch on Thursday morning.
Speaking to reporters, Salahuddin Khan stated, "During the previous Awami League government, BNP leaders and activists were targeted in crossfires with the intent to eliminate our party. We have submitted a detailed district and upazila-based list of these incidents. Additionally, a separate complaint addresses the enforced disappearances of 153 individuals, including former BNP leaders Ilias Ali and Chowdhury Alam."
The complaint identifies Sheikh Hasina as the primary accused, alongside several members of law enforcement agencies allegedly involved in the actions.
The submissions include a 245-page complaint detailing the crossfire incidents and a 20-page document on the enforced disappearances. Both were signed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP’s move to seek justice on an international platform reflects escalating political tensions in the country. It remains to be seen how the tribunal will respond to these allegations.
