Dhaka, Jul 21 (V7N) – Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has acknowledged the contribution of political alliance partners that participated in the simultaneous movement against the Awami League government, reaffirming his government's commitment to implementing the promises outlined in the July Charter.
Tarique Rahman made the remarks during a meeting with leaders of allied political parties at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday evening (July 20). The gathering marked the first formal meeting between the Prime Minister and the top leadership of the alliance partners since the formation of the new government.
More than 150 leaders representing the parties involved in the simultaneous movement, along with members of the BNP Standing Committee, attended the meeting.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the role played by the alliance partners during the movement and assured them that their contribution would always be remembered.
Mirza Fakhrul said the current government inherited a country in a difficult condition and has taken responsibility for rebuilding institutions that had collapsed under the previous administration. He added that the government has already begun reforms and will work to implement every commitment made in the July Charter.
Responding to a question on whether the BNP would contest the upcoming local government elections independently or as part of an alliance, Mirza Fakhrul said the party has not yet made a final decision.
"The BNP will take its decision on participation in the local government elections through discussions within the party and with its allies," he said.
The meeting is being viewed as an important step toward strengthening coordination among the parties that jointly participated in the anti-government movement and now support the BNP-led administration.
