Dhaka, Jan 14 (V7N) — The Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed announced on Tuesday that preparations for the upcoming national elections are proceeding according to the schedule set by interim government Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at the EC building in Agargaon, Dhaka, Akhtar Ahmed confirmed that the UNDP would provide technical assistance in voter list preparation and election logistics.
The EC Secretary stated, "The UNDP will submit a detailed list of required support within the next ten days. This collaboration is expected to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the electoral process."
A five-member UNDP delegation arrived at the EC building at 11:00 am on Tuesday to discuss how they can assist in the elections. The meeting explored potential areas of support, including logistics, training, public awareness, and technical guidance.
Since 2005, the UNDP has been a consistent partner in Bangladesh’s electoral processes, offering direct support in organizing elections. This includes assistance in voter list preparation, capacity building, and ensuring voter awareness.
The collaboration underscores the commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, aligning with international standards.
