Dhaka, Jan 18 (V7N)— BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for elections to be held as soon as possible, stating that all necessary issues will be discussed in parliament. Speaking at a discussion meeting titled "White Paper and What's Next" on Saturday, he outlined the party’s vision for political reforms and future policies.

Mirza Fakhrul emphasised the need for a bicameral parliament and a balance of power between the Prime Minister and the President to ensure effective governance. He also announced that loan defaulters would not be eligible for BNP nominations in the next elections.

When asked about the role of the Awami League in future elections, Fakhrul stated, "The people of the country will decide whether the Awami League will hold elections in the future or not." He criticised the previous government for failing to engage with China and India to resolve the Rohingya crisis.

On the pressure for early elections under an interim government, Fakhrul explained, "We believe that an elected government, with the people's mandate, can implement all necessary reforms. BNP is learning from past mistakes and formulating policies to move forward."

The BNP Secretary General’s remarks come amidst growing political uncertainty and calls for reforms in Bangladesh’s electoral process. The party appears to be positioning itself as a pro-reform entity ahead of the anticipated elections.
