Dhaka, Mar 13 (V7N) – Several major political parties, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party, the BNP-led 12-party alliance, and the Left Alliance, have decided not to express their opinions on the 166 reform recommendations sent by the National Consensus Commission on March 6.

The commission had sought political parties' feedback on the proposals by March 13, presenting the recommendations in a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) format. Parties were asked to indicate their stance on 120 questions by choosing ‘agree,’ ‘disagree,’ or ‘partially agree’ and provide input on timing and implementation through six additional options.

The BNP has expressed discomfort with the MCQ method, stating that it prefers to provide a detailed, comprehensive response on reforms at a later stage.

Apart from BNP, other political groups such as Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party, Nagorik Oikya, Gana Sanghati Andolon, and Gana Adhikar Parishad have either refrained from submitting responses or requested an extension from the Consensus Commission.

According to Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Dr. Ali Riaz, the sooner political parties reach an agreement, the sooner a national charter can be finalized. This charter will serve as the foundation for announcing an electoral roadmap.

Additionally, Dr. Riaz mentioned that public input will also be sought on key recommendations to ensure broader participation in the reform process.
