Dhaka, Mar 26 (V7N) – Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has declared that the students and the public will not accept any election aimed at bringing a party to power without necessary reforms and justice for the genocide of the 24th mass uprising.
Speaking at the National Memorial in Savar on Wednesday (March 26), he warned that those who deviate from the aspirations of the 24th mass uprising will not have the unity of students and the public.
Leaders from various political parties emphasized that if the 24th mass uprising is utilized to establish democracy and uphold the spirit of the Liberation War, Bangladesh will not lose its way.
Following the President, Chief Advisor, and foreign diplomats, political leaders and activists paid their respects to the martyrs of 1971, reaffirming their commitment to a new Bangladesh free from the misrule of the past fifteen years.
Many political leaders argued that the aspirations of 1971 and 2024 are not contradictory and that unity and decisive steps, including reforms and elections, are necessary to move forward.
Student leaders, who played a key role in the 2024 mass uprising, echoed similar sentiments. They insisted that the movement was in line with the spirit of 1971, and any deviation from its goals would break the unity between students and the general public.
Nahid Islam reiterated that if an election is held without addressing key demands, particularly bringing those responsible for the 24th genocide to justice, it will face strong resistance from the people and students.
