Tangail, July 17 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami organized a protest rally and public gathering in Tangail on Thursday, condemning recent attacks on Nationalist Citizens’ Platform (NCP) activists in Gopalganj. The incident allegedly involved members of the banned Chhatra League and ruling Awami League.
The protest march began in front of the Old Court Mosque in Tangail town and proceeded through Nirala Mor and Victoria Road before culminating in a rally at the Old Bus Stand.
Speakers at the gathering included Ahsan Habib Masud, Ameer of Tangail District Jamaat-e-Islami; Maulana Humayun Kabir, district secretary; Abdur Razzak, district secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir; and Professor Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, Ameer of the city Jamaat. The event was conducted by Professor Iqbal Hossain Badol, Ameer of the Sadar Upazila unit.
In his address, district Jamaat leader Ahsan Habib Masud stated that the “ghosts of fascism” are once again trying to rise from Gopalganj. He described the attack and arson targeting the NCP’s program as part of a broader conspiracy against Bangladesh’s democratic aspirations.
He urged all political groups and members of the July Movement to put aside their differences and unite in building a mass resistance against fascism. He also emphasized the need to stand against what he termed “India's dominance” and called for a just and fair Bangladesh based on justice and accountability.
Masud demanded an impartial investigation into the Gopalganj incident and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
