Dhaka, July 17 (V7N) – Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has blamed the intelligence agencies and administration for failing to prevent the deadly violence during the party’s road meeting in Gopalganj, where at least four people were reportedly killed.

In a Facebook post from his verified account on Thursday morning (July 17), Nahid declared that NCP would return to Gopalganj, and if alive, he would lead programs in every upazila and village of the district. “The flag of the July mass uprising will fly in every house in Gopalganj,” he stated.

Referring to the deaths, Nahid said, “We have received news of the deaths of four people. We do not support or expect any extrajudicial killings. Action should be taken through proper judicial processes.”

“Gopalganj Will Not Belong to Mujibists”

In a strongly worded message, Nahid alleged that the Awami League had endangered the lives of Gopalganj residents for decades, and vowed to free the district—and the country—from what he called “Mujibist terrorism and fascism.”

“We will not let Mujibism stand on the soil of Gopalganj and Bangladesh. Gopalganj will belong to the people of Bangladesh, not to the Mujibists,” he declared.

He also invoked the memory of Shaheed Babu Molla and Shaheed Rathin Biswas, stating that the NCP is committed to honoring their sacrifices and restoring what he termed “the real Gopalganj.”

Accusations of Armed Attacks, Administrative Collusion

Nahid claimed that the July 16 road meeting was a pre-announced peaceful program, but was attacked by “Mujibist terrorists” in a planned, armed assault. He further alleged that Chhatra League members from across the country, many from banned chapters, were brought into Gopalganj with administrative assistance.

“We entered Gopalganj only after receiving security clearance. We didn’t even march—only held a road meeting. But Awami terrorists launched an armed attack while we were returning,” he said.

He criticized the law enforcement agencies for failing to arrest armed attackers, even though they were publicly displaying weapons.

Nahid also alleged that some “fascist allies and corrupt officials” within the administration are working behind the scenes to protect perpetrators, claiming that many arrested members of the ruling party later received bail and fled police custody.

Demands and Future Plans

The NCP convener demanded a fair investigation into the Gopalganj incident, as well as a nationwide drive to arrest terrorists based on specific intelligence. He emphasized that such actions must be taken not only in Gopalganj but across all districts.

Concluding his message, Nahid thanked those who protested the attack and announced that the party would continue its campaign in Faridpur, reaffirming that the "March to Build the Country" will not be halted.
