Dhaka, July 27 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that a resolution to the country’s ongoing crisis is only possible through a democratic system and national unity. He made the remarks while addressing a seminar on the implementation of the Padma Barrage and the Second Padma Bridge, organized by the National Committee for the Implementation of Padma Projects at the BRAC Center in the capital on Sunday (July 27).

Mirza Fakhrul stated that the BNP is fully aware of the people's demands and is working toward a transformation of the state structure in line with those needs. “We are currently going through a transition period, but it has also created an opportunity. A sense of national unity has emerged. If we can utilize this, we will be successful,” he said.

He emphasized that the power of the people remains the most critical force for change. “The people of Bangladesh have proven their strength before—in 1971 during the Liberation War and again in 2012. If united, they can bring about any change,” he added.

Addressing infrastructure development, Fakhrul highlighted the necessity of the Padma Barrage and a Second Padma Bridge, saying BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had long advocated for the second bridge. “These projects require political commitment, but also public demand to ensure implementation,” he noted.

He further pointed out that many areas in the southern region have lost public transport connectivity, especially bus services, and stressed the need for immediate decisions to address the issue.

Referring to his party’s vision for reform, Fakhrul stated that the BNP has already undertaken significant reform initiatives, including the 31-point outline for structural change proposed by Tarique Rahman.
