Dhaka, Nov 29 (V7N) – Hefazat-e-Islam has demanded the prosecution of Baul Abul Sarkar over a case of religious disrespect and called on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to apologize for labeling Sarkar’s critics as “religiously blind.”

The demand was made Friday during a rally at the north gate of Baitul Mokarram National Mosque in Dhaka, protesting alleged insults to Allah, the Quran, and Islam.

Hefazat’s Deputy Amir and Dhaka Metropolitan Amir Junayed Al Habib said, “The audacity shown by Abul Sarkar is unacceptable to any Muslim. It is not only religious disrespect but also a direct attack on the faith of Muslims. We caution BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to retract his statement and apologize, or step down from his position.”

Other speakers at the rally warned that those sheltering Sarkar or filing harassing cases against followers of Tawhidi Jubo would face consequences, saying that if the case is not withdrawn and Sarkar not prosecuted immediately, the Tawhidi community would take to the streets and could even paralyze the country.

During the procession, one individual was chased and beaten by participants on suspicion of mobile theft; some also called him a Baul. He was later rescued by Hefazat volunteers.

Speakers at the rally included Hefazat leaders Maulana Abdur Rab Yousufi, Maulana Muhyuddin Rabbani, Maulana Ahmad Ali Qasemi, Maulana Azizul Haque Islamabad, Maulana Mujibur Rahman Hamidi, and Mufti Fakhrul Islam, among others.
