Dhaka, Jan 03 (V7N) - For more than fifteen years, Fatema was the constant companion of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. From the residence to the office, from public rallies to hospitals, abroad, and even prison, she was always by Zia’s side. Following the passing of the BNP Chairperson, Fatema has now been seen accompanying Jaimah Rahman, Khaleda Zia’s daughter.
On Friday, January 2, several videos circulated on Facebook showing Fatema alongside Jaimah Rahman while visiting the grave of her late grandmother. The footage captures Fatema stepping out of the vehicle shortly after Jaimah, suggesting a continued role as a close aide.
Observers on social media speculate that Fatema may now serve as Jaimah Rahman’s personal companion, mirroring her long-standing role with Khaleda Zia. A BNP source, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed this development, stating that Fatema now assists Jaimah Rahman in her daily activities in the same dedicated manner she supported the late Chairperson.
Fatema, originally from Bhola, joined Khaleda Zia’s household staff at the Gulshan residence ‘Firoza’ in 2010. Over time, she became an indispensable part of the Chairperson’s personal life. According to personal staff of the BNP Chairperson, Fatema displayed unwavering loyalty, always attending to the Chairperson’s needs, reminding her of important matters, and assisting in all personal affairs.
During Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment beginning on February 8, 2018, Fatema was permitted to accompany her inside prison, following legal petitions from the former Prime Minister’s lawyers. She voluntarily remained with Khaleda Zia for nearly 25 months while she served her sentence.
Fatema also remained a quiet yet visible presence during politically turbulent periods, including protests against the caretaker government in 2013 and the extended sit-in at the BNP headquarters in early 2015, where she stayed alongside the Chairperson for 92 consecutive days.
Now in her early forties, Fatema is a mother of one and resides with her parents in Shahjahanpur, Dhaka. Her initial engagement at the Gulshan residence was facilitated through a senior BNP leader.
