Dhaka, Jan 10 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday expressed serious concerns over the fairness of the upcoming national parliamentary elections, claiming that all political parties are not being provided equal opportunities. The party said such conditions make it impossible to conduct free, fair, and acceptable elections.
The statement followed a meeting of Jamaat’s central Election Management Committee at the party’s headquarters in Moghbazar, Dhaka. Senior officials of the committee said that the administration has shown bias in recent incidents, undermining the principles of neutrality required for elections.
The meeting highlighted ongoing issues such as the unresolved investigation into the murder of Osman Hadi, continued acts of violence, and the insufficient recovery of illegal weapons, noting that these challenges compromise the safety of citizens and the integrity of the electoral process.
Committee members emphasized that for elections to be genuinely free and fair, law enforcement must take effective action against identified terrorists and strengthen efforts to seize illegal arms.
The session was presided over by Maulana A.T.M. Masum, President of Jamaat’s National Election Management Committee, and conducted by Maulana Abdul Halim, Member Secretary of the committee. A press release from the party’s publicity division confirmed the statements made during the meeting.
Jamaat-e-Islami called on authorities to address these concerns immediately to ensure that elections are conducted under transparent and impartial conditions, safeguarding the democratic rights of all political parties and citizens.
