Dhaka, Jan 24 (V7N) — BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will visit Chittagong tonight as part of his campaign for the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, marking his first visit to the port city in nearly 20 years.
The information was disclosed by Mahdi Amin, spokesperson of the BNP’s Election Management Committee, at a press conference held in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Saturday (January 24).
Mahdi Amin said that Tarique Rahman is scheduled to fly to Chittagong at 7:35 pm. On Sunday, he will take part in a dialogue on youth policy. Barrister Zaima Rahman will also join the event alongside winners of a reels-making competition.
Expressing gratitude to party leaders and activists, Mahdi Amin thanked them for their participation in Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to the Sylhet region, saying it helped create a strong mass movement in favor of the paddy sheaf symbol.
He also stated that if BNP comes to power, family cards and farmer cards will be provided to citizens free of cost through state initiatives. Rejecting recent claims, Mahdi Amin described allegations of BNP’s agreement with India as “mere propaganda.”
It is worth noting that Tarique Rahman last visited Chittagong in 2005, when he was serving as the Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP. During that visit, he addressed a public meeting in support of BNP mayoral candidate Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin during the Chittagong City Corporation elections.
