Dhaka, Jan 25 (V7N) — British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cook paid a courtesy call on Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday morning.

The meeting was held at the Jamaat Ameer’s Bashundhara office at around 9:30 am and took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

British High Commission Deputy High Commissioner James Goldman, Head of Political Timothy Duckett, and Second Secretary (Political) Kate Ward were present during the meeting.

It was learned that the discussions focused on various aspects of holding the 13th National Parliament elections in Bangladesh in a free, fair and acceptable manner, along with other issues of mutual interest. Both sides expressed hope that the upcoming election would contribute to further strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in the country.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of enhancing bilateral relations, including cooperation in trade, commerce and mutual interests, between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. Both parties expressed optimism that these relations would continue to grow in the future.

From Jamaat-e-Islami, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Propaganda and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Executive Council Member Mubarak Hossain, and Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Jamaat Ameer Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan were also present at the meeting.
