Narayanganj, Jan 26 (V7N) — BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that establishing the rule of law will be the top priority if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party comes to power, stressing that all crimes will be tried under existing laws and a zero-tolerance policy will be enforced against encroachment and violence.
He made the remarks while addressing an election rally at the new bus terminal ground in Kanchpur, Sonargaon, Narayanganj, around 2:30 am on Sunday (January 25).
Tarique Rahman said that terrorism and corruption have long been the biggest problems in Narayanganj district. “You all know who carried out these activities and how they were done,” he said. He also identified drug trafficking as a major concern, noting that there are around 20 major drug spots in Narayanganj city.
“If BNP comes to power, these drug spots will be the first to be eliminated,” he said, adding that his party is determined to bring terrorism and criminal politics under control.
The BNP chairman said the law and order situation has deteriorated sharply in recent years, putting the lives and property of ordinary citizens at risk. He reiterated that every crime will be dealt with according to the country’s existing laws, with no leniency for offenders.
Highlighting BNP’s plans for the youth, Tarique Rahman said the party aims to eliminate unemployment by providing not only formal education but also language training and modern technical skills to make young people employable both at home and abroad.
He also pledged to ensure dignified livelihoods for imams, khatibs and madrasa teachers through special training and opportunities for halal income.
Addressing agricultural issues, Tarique Rahman said farming is being hampered due to the encroachment of rivers and canals. To tackle this, BNP plans to renovate water bodies across the country and relaunch the canal excavation program introduced during the tenure of former President Ziaur Rahman.
Candidates of the BNP and its alliance from five constituencies of Narayanganj district were present at the rally.
