Dhaka, Jan 29 (V7N) — Newly appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen paid a courtesy call on Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday morning.
The meeting was held at 8:00 am, during which the two sides exchanged views on a range of issues, including the current political and economic situation in Bangladesh, industry and trade, the upcoming national parliamentary elections, state reforms, and the Rohingya crisis.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Christensen said that he had listened to Dr. Shafiqur Rahman’s views on the forthcoming elections.
“The United States wants to work with all political parties in Bangladesh to advance the common goal of peace and prosperity,” he said.
During the discussion, the US Ambassador also praised the positive role of Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh’s economic development and democratic progress. He expressed optimism that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States would further strengthen in the future.
Ambassador Christensen was accompanied by Eric Gilman, Political and Economic Consul of the US Embassy in Dhaka; Public Officer Monica L. Sai; Political Officer James Stewart; and Political Specialist Firoz Ahmed.
On behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Propaganda and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Executive Council Member Md. Mubarak Hossain, and Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Jamaat Ameer Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan were also present at the meeting.
