Feni, Jan 30 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has pledged to ensure the dignity and security of women on a priority basis if his party comes to power, saying that women currently do not enjoy adequate safety and respect in the country.
He made the remarks while addressing an election rally at Feni Government Pilot High School ground on Friday morning.
At the outset of his speech, the Jamaat Ameer remembered former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, saying she never practiced hegemony in politics. He assured that if elected, all national issues would be addressed on the basis of justice and fairness.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also announced plans to establish a medical college and an international-standard stadium in Feni, stressing the need for balanced regional development.
Criticizing past governance, he said that politics which turned the country into a “champion of corruption” should be shown a “red card.” He added that instead of offering unemployment allowances, the youth should be trained as skilled human resources to contribute to nation-building.
Referring to the Feni Dam, the Jamaat Ameer said discussions would be held with neighboring countries while prioritizing Bangladesh’s national interest.
After concluding his speech, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman formally handed over party symbols to candidates contesting the three parliamentary seats in Feni.
Earlier, leaders and activists began gathering at the venue after Fajr prayers. Processions from different parts of the district, involving Jamaat and leaders of 11 allied parties, filled the rally ground to capacity before the public meeting began.
