Dhaka, Feb 11 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair has claimed that the arrest of Thakurgaon District Jamaat Ameer Belal Uddin with a large amount of cash is “propaganda,” stating that the money is related to his personal business.

He made the remarks to the media on Wednesday.

Earlier, law enforcement agencies detained Belal Uddin at Syedpur Airport with a significant amount of cash. The Superintendent of Police of Nilphamari confirmed the matter, adding that the seized money is being counted using a machine.

During initial questioning, Belal Uddin said his residence is in Thakurgaon Sadar and that he works as a teacher by profession. He claimed that more than Tk 50 lakh was in his luggage.

When asked about the source of the money, he said it was related to his business activities and added that he is involved in the garment business.

Law enforcement authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
