Dhaka, Apr 24 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned recent attacks on student leaders and activists in different parts of the country, including an incident in front of Shahbagh Police Station.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s Secretary General Golam Parwar criticized the attack on leaders of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU).

Shahbagh incident

According to the statement, DUCSU leaders — including Literary and Cultural Affairs Secretary Musaddiq Ali, Social Service Secretary AB Zubair, and a female leader named Juma — were attacked inside the police station premises on Thursday evening.

Jamaat described the incident as “unacceptable in a democratic society” and demanded:

  • Immediate identification of those involved

  • Arrest and exemplary punishment of the accused

Criticism of police

Golam Parwar also expressed concern over the role of law enforcement, alleging that police remained passive during the incident. He termed this conduct “highly condemnable” and said it has created public concern.

Incidents in Pabna and Comilla

The statement further alleged that:

  • Activists of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir were attacked during a procession at Ishwardi Government College in Pabna

  • At least 20 activists were injured in another attack at Comilla Polytechnic Institute

Jamaat claimed these incidents indicate attempts to destabilize educational institutions.

Call for restraint

The party emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence among student organizations and a stable academic environment. It urged all sides to avoid political provocation and called on authorities to ensure student safety.

Golam Parwar also wished a speedy recovery to the injured and called for responsible behavior from all parties.
