Netrokona, Jul 3 (V7N) — Opposition leader and Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that a united stance by Parliament on border issues would send a strong message to the international community that Bangladesh stands united in defending its sovereignty.

He made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting at the Netrokona Circuit House on Friday.

Dr. Shafiqur said the 348 members of the current Parliament represent the people of the entire country and stressed that Bangladesh belongs to all its citizens.

"We will not allow anyone to occupy even an inch of our land, let alone a grain of sand," he said.

Expressing support for the country's border forces, the Jamaat chief said the people would stand beside the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) whenever necessary.

"The BGB will carry weapons, while we will stand with the strength of our patriotism. We have stood together in many places before, and that unity has prevented hostile actions," he said.

Dr. Shafiqur also alleged discrimination in the distribution of government development funds, claiming that constituencies represented by ruling party lawmakers receive greater allocations than those represented by opposition members.

He argued that a government is responsible for serving every citizen and every part of the country equally, regardless of political affiliation.

"Those entrusted with governing the country are accountable to the entire nation. Their responsibility is not limited to a particular individual, region, group or political party, but extends to all the people of Bangladesh," he added.
