Dhaka, Aug 21 (V7N)- Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has congratulated newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and wished him success in carrying out his constitutional responsibilities.
He conveyed the greetings in a congratulatory message on Thursday (August 20).
Shafiqur Rahman said the President is a symbol of national unity and plays an important role in the country’s democratic development, protection of citizens’ rights and justice, and safeguarding independence and sovereignty.
He expressed hope that Mirza Fakhrul would use his long political experience, qualifications and wisdom to rise above party and ideological differences and play a responsible role in upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.
The Jamaat chief also hoped that the newly elected president would work toward establishing justice and strengthening national unity, with particular emphasis on equality, human dignity and social justice.
Recalling Mirza Fakhrul’s political role during the four-party coalition government from 2001 to 2006, Shafiqur Rahman said he had played an important role in running the state alongside leaders of the coalition’s partner parties.
He expressed hope that Mirza Fakhrul’s long political and state experience would contribute positively to the welfare of the country.
The opposition leader wished the newly elected president good health, long life and success in fulfilling his responsibilities as head of state.
