Dhaka, Sep 17 (V7N)– Former Awami League Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kushtia-4 Constituency, Salim Altaf George, has been arrested by the police. The arrest took place in Lalmatia, Dhaka, on Tuesday night.

Rezaul Karim Mallik, Chief of the Detective Police, confirmed George's arrest, citing several cases filed against him in both Dhaka and Kushtia. George, a central leader of the Jubo League, has been under scrutiny for some time.

Salim Altaf George was elected as an MP in the 11th National Parliament election in 2019. However, despite receiving the party's nomination, he lost the race in the 12th parliamentary election.

George's political background is significant, with his grandfather, Golam Kibria, being an organiser of the Liberation War and a Member of Parliament. Golam Kibria was tragically shot and killed in 1974 while attending Eid prayers as a sitting MP.

Further details about George’s legal troubles and the ongoing investigation are expected to emerge in the coming days.
